august brings with it culture from abroad

An old saying from the countryside used to go: ‘nine months of winter and three of hell’. In fact, we’ve managed to turn those three months into a time for socialising outdoors, making the most of what they have to offer – which, in truth, is the ability to bring people together to spend time in their own neighbourhood with their community during their leisure time.
This is what truly draws us to the outdoors.

Until the 9th, we’ll be in Santa Maria da Feira every day, celebrating 20 years of our presence at Viagem Medieval. A place where we have grown, where we have always presented unique offerings, learning from this audience, from this dynamic, from this event, to realise that artistic creation must often be deeply connected to its audience, without being sidelined or undervalued in any way in relation to the commitment we have set ourselves.
We will be presenting our production ‘Aldeia Balão’ in Vila Real and Vila do Conde, always in the open air. We are bringing a show that came about in a rather unusual way, born out of difficult times for the organisation, for society itself, and for all of us, making this production a constant, overarching reflection on eternal questions.
We will head up into the mountains once more, to Montemuro, to present the production “The Girl Who Painted Birds”—something we hold very dear and which demonstrates the resilience of a company we greatly admire.
We’ll also be in Almeida staging “Bzzzoira Moira”, one of the company’s oldest productions. A story shared sweetly and freely, a gift bestowed upon us that we perpetuate through legends and traditions with our audience, in the hope that they, too, will take away a little of our history as an organisation in the form of a traditional legend.
We’ll also be spending three days running creative workshops with children at Casa Branca de Gramido, days centred on the art of puppetry.
But right up until the end of this month, we won’t be stopping, as we’re developing two cultural outreach projects, one with the Fábrica da História – Arroz Museum and the other with the D. Diogo de Sousa Museum of Archaeology. We are also working intensively on the project for babies, co-produced with the Krisálida theatre company.

And so August will be a month that flies by in the blink of an eye, savouring the sun that bathes us daily, whilst working tirelessly on the year ahead and the various initiatives that will take place throughout the year.
